Sri Lanka main opposition says government may use LTTE assets for election campaign

Mon, Oct 27, 2014, 11:30 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka. Oct 27, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) today charged that the government may use LTTE assets in its campaign for a Presidential Election.

Addressing a media briefing at Sirikotha Monday, UNP General Secretary, parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake said with the European Union General Court lifting the ban on the LTTE, the government may use LTTE assets through the former LTTE leader Kumaran Pathmanathan (KP) for a presidential election.

He said that no one had denied KP of being the current leader of the LTTE and therefore he would have easy access to the LTTE funds and assets.

"Now that the ban on LTTE has been lifted by the EU General Court, current leaders including KP will have access to LTTE funds once they were unfrozen," He told the media.
