Sri Lankan government to assess environmental impact of development projects during planning

According to the project management and supervision programme of the Ministry of Finance, a policy is being formulated on the preparation of environmental impact reports on the relevant projects.
Accordingly, the existing legislation will be subjected to an extensive investigation.
The opinions and proposals of environmental organizations will be taken into consideration in the formulation of the strategy.
The Ministries of Mahaweli Development and Environmental policy planning will engage in the implementation of the relevant policy.
