Sri Lanka to set up center in war-torn North to uplift families headed by women

Mon, Apr 6, 2015, 12:24 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka. Apr 05, Kilinochchi: The Sri Lankan Government has decided to set up a national welfare center in the war-torn North to uplift Tamil families headed by women affected by the country's three-decade long war.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's Office said in a statement that the National Center for the Upliftment of the Households Headed by Women will be set up in Kilinochchi, the former stronghold of Tamil Tiger terrorists.

The PM, who toured the Eastern Province Sunday, has initiated the decision on a request made by the people of the North to establish the center in their area since many women, who lost their husbands, live in Kilinochchi.
