Mon, Mar 23, 2015, 07:07 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka. Mar 23, Colombo: Finance Minister of Sri Lanka Ravi Karunanayake says the government will hold general elections after the 23rd of April this year.
Karunanayake said the formation of a national unity government will not result in a delay in the holding of general elections.
The Minister explained that the government needed the support of more Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members in order to ensure it received a two thirds majority in Parliament to pass key reforms proposals.
Several SLFP members were named Cabinet and State Ministers as well as Deputy Ministers yesterday by President Maithripala Sirisena.
