Dec 10, Colombo: A local election watchdog in Sri Lanka Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) Tuesday expressed deep concern over the increasing media suppression in the country as presidential election draws near and the police inaction regarding those who violate election laws.
Referring to the action by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police interrogating a journalist of a local newspaper for an election prediction that was unfavorable to the incumbent President, the election monitor said the police action is a direct attempt to suppress the media near the election.
